Childcare Voucher Providers Association welcomes extension to childcare vouchers

Childcare vouchers will remain open to new entrants until April 2018

The Childcare Voucher Providers Association (CVPA) has welcomed today’s announcement by the government that childcare vouchers will remain open to new entrants until April 2018.

The government’s new Tax-free Childcare scheme will be rolled out from early 2017. From April 2018, existing users of childcare vouchers will be able to continue to claim vouchers as long as they remain with their employer. They will also have the option of switching to Tax-free Childcare at any time.

The Chair of the CVPA, Fiona Shields, said:
We welcome today’s announcement by the government.

Keeping childcare vouchers open to new entrants while Tax-free Childcare is being rolled out will allow parents to compare the schemes and choose whichever is best for their family.

Some families will not be eligible to claim Tax-free Childcare, while others will be better off under childcare vouchers rather than Tax-free Childcare.

For example, vouchers can be used to cover the cost of care for children up to the age of 15 whereas Tax-free Childcare will only be available in respect of children aged 12 and younger.

Families can save up to £1,866 under vouchers. Parents should contact a childcare voucher provider to find out which scheme they will be better off under.
Fiona Shields, Chair of the CVPA

The maximum saving under childcare vouchers assumes two basic-rate taxpaying parents claiming the maximum £933 each.
